Salmon derby postponed

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Bad weather has forced the postponement of the 73rd Annual Golden North Salmon Derby.

Co-Chair of the Tournament Jerry Burnett announced the first postponement for the derby in 73 years.  He said they are working on another date for the derby and will announce that soon.

"We can't in good conscience allow people on the water in these conditions," he noted.

Co-Chair Doug Larson said they regret the inconvenience.

The National Weather Service reported gale-force winds were expected in northern Lynn Canal, Chatham Strait, Stephens Passage and Cross Sound on Saturday.

They also expected to issue several small craft advisories for the weekend.
