Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Tammy Randolph had faced criticism for social media posts.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported Randolph sent a letter to the Governor to withdraw from consideration for the job.
Randolph apologized last week for rude and severe language on her Twitter feed, including a post where she referred to former First Lady Michelle Obama as a man.
Her appointment was subject to legislative confirmation.
Randolph wrote in the letter that she did not want to distract from the business of the board.
