Power outage downtown

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska Electric Light and Power are trying to determine the cause of the outage and restore power.

The areas impacted range from Centennial Hall to the downtown library.

AEL&P Spokesperson Debbie Driscoll said the power went out at 10:21 am.

Driscoll said crews are currently looking downtown to determine the source of the outage.  She did not have an estimated time for when power could be restored.

Power was restored at 12:35 pm.

Company officials said the outage was caused by a failed underground cable.   Crews were able to reroute all affected customer loads to an alternate feeder and restore power.   They will remain in this configuration until repairs can be completed on the underground section of line.
