Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Phase two of the Aurora Harbor rebuild project is wrapping up.
CBJ Docks and Harbors Department officials provided an update on Action Line Wednesday.
Assistant Port Engineer Erich Schaal is overseeing the project. He said the contractor, Northern Construction Services, is doing great. "They're going to be complete on Monday, April 2," he said. "So they're racing towards the finish line."
Port Director Carl Uchytil said a phase three is planned which he explained will be a continuation of the first two phases. He thinks that will occur in 2020. He's hoping that is done in conjunction with Army Corp of Engineers dredging in Aurora and Harris Harbors planned for the Fall of 2019.
"So what we would like to do is have the last phase demolished and give the dredging operation the easiest opportunity to come in an dredge to the design depth."
