Parks service promotion announced

    Skagway, Alaska (KINY) A search is underway to find a new superintendent of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.

    Mike Tranel was promoted from that job to become the new superintendent of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Montana and Wyoming.  He will also supervise three historically significant Park Service units in the region, the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana, Devils Tower National Monument and Fort Laramie National Historic Site in Wyoming. 

    Tranel had served the Park Service for 33 years with the past seven years in Skagway.  He will take over his new job duties in late May.
