Oregon man fined after illegal fishing off Chichagof Island

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - An Oregon man has been fined and ordered to forfeit earnings after being convicted of fishing in closed waters.

    Drew Patterson, 30, was convicted of a violation of Fishing Seasons and Periods in this case.

    He was fined $6,000, with $3,000 suspended, placed on probation for one year, and ordered to forfeit $18,172.81 in proceeds after he was caught fishing in closed waters.

    In August of last year, an investigation by Alaska State Troopers revealed Patterson fished in the closed waters of Black Bay on Chichagof Island. Patterson was summonsed to appear in the District court in Sitka.
