Five to run for two school board seats, four running for four Assembly seats

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Five people have filed for two seats on the Juneau School Board and there are exactly four candidates for four Assembly seats.

    The filing deadline for Juneau's local election October 1 was Monday afternoon at 4:30.

    There were be contested school board seats and four candidates for four Assembly seats.

    Carole Triem is unopposed for an areawide seat and Wade Bryson netted no competition for his District 2 seat.

    There are two candidates for two District 1 seats.  One is for a three year term and another for a one year term.

    Alicia Hughes-Skandijs is serving out Jesse Kiel's term.  The other candidate is Greg Smith.

    Incumbent Mary Becker is term limited after serving three terms and can not seek re-election to her District 1 seat.

    Five people have filed for two seats on the Juneau School Board.

    They are former member Emil Robert Mackey III; Martin Stepetin Sr., Bonnie Jensen, Deedie Sorensen, and Amanda Ryder.

    Incumbents Dan DeBartolo  and Steve Whitney decided not to seek re-election.
