KENAI, Alaska (KINY) - The state saw some positive news and some negative news from a jobs report released today.
The report from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development found that the number of commercial fishing jobs dropped by about five percent across the state in 2016. However there were regions of the state where there was an increase in fishing industry jobs.
The south-central area of Alaska saw an increase last year while southeast Alaska saw a decline, especially in the salmon industry. There was a 6.4 percent decline in salmon related jobs across the state.
The report suggested 2017 could see a bit of a turnaround in fishing industry jobs.
