Man struck by plane lives to tell about it

    Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) A man suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by an airplane during naval exercises in the Beaufort Sea.

    The man was a civilian employee for the Navy's Artic Submarine Laboratory.  He was transported to Anchorage for treatment and is expected to recover.

    KTVA news reported the man had been at the base camp for Ice Exercise 2018, also known as ICEX.  The 140 mile camp is used to coordinate submarine exercises. 

    A National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report sound a de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter operated by the Homer based Bald Mountain Air Service struck the man as he was taking a photograph.
