Man killed in tanker truck crash

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) - The tanker crashed near mile 36 of the Dalton Highway.

Alaska State Troopers reported Richard A. Flansberg, 60, of Delta Junction, the driver of the truck, died in the crash.  A passenger, Larry Bloodworth, 60, of Anchorage, was transported by Alyeska Pipeline Service to the company medical facility nearby.

The crash punctured the front tank of the tanker and spilled 2 thousand gallons of heating fuel.  The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation was notified and clean-up procedures are underway.

Troopers said it appeared speed and road conditions were contributors to the crash.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The investigation into the crash continues.
