Legislator hospitalized

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Fairbanks rep. David Guttenberg was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital after a medical emergency at the capitol Thursday afternoon

House majority press secretary Mike Mason said Rep. David Guttenberg was conscious, lucid and joking as he was taken by paramedics to a Juneau hospital on Thursday.

Capital City Fire Rescue arrived at the capital shortly before 2:30 pm and treated Guttenberg in his office.  Guttenberg appeared to be in good spirits and was laughing with colleagues after he left.  He had been involved in a house finance committee meeting before the incident.

Mason said the extent of Guttenberg's condition was not immediately known.

Guttenberg is a Democrat from Fairbanks who was first elected to the House in 2002.

He serves on the House Finance Committee, which has been debating the state budget.
