Kake man dies in house fire

Kake, Alaska (KINY) - Authorities have recovered the body of 39-year-old Loren Jackson, Jr., after a house fire Saturday in Kake.

Local residents had spent the weekend searching for Jackson after the fire, which collapsed the home and made searching the debris impossible until a deputy state Fire Marshal arrived Sunday by boat.

According to Organized Village of Kake President Joel Jackson, the fire was reported at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday.

Tim DeSpain of the Alaska State Troopers said in a statement that a VPSO reported the fire at a residence on Silver Spike Road.

First responders and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze after about an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
