    In Track & Field action, the Thunder Mountain and Juneau Douglas Teams co-hosted the Capital Invitational Track & Field Meet at Thunder Mountain this weekend

    The Thunder Mountain boys and girls ran away with both Team Titles. The boys out distanced their rivals by 114 points. Thunder Mountain girls placed first with 198 points. Ketchikan’s 84 points were good for second, with Sitka, Petersburg, Haines, Juneau-Douglas, Gustavus, Yakutat and Thorne Bay rounding out the 9 team field. On the boys side, Thunder Mountain also won by a large margin with 177 points. Second place went to Sitka with 90 points followed by Juneau-Douglas, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Haines, Thorne Bay, Yakutat and Skagway.

    There were many outstanding performances, including a win in the 800 by Ethan Goebel from Juneau-Douglas as well as three Thunder Mountain athletes who landed spots on the State’s top 5 list. They were Naomi Welling in the Triple Jump, Gabe Crawford in the Long Jump and Luke Paden in the 400 meter run with a time of 50.72 seconds which also set a new school record.

    Both teams will be preparing for the Region 5 Championship Meet with a trip to Haines this weekend before returning home for the Region Championship Meet at Thunder Mountain on May 20th and 21st.
