Juneau Police holiday patrols looking for drunk drivers

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) -The Juneau Police Department plans beefed up patrols for the holidays.

The head of the Patrol Unit, Lieutenant Krag (Craig) Campbell said on Action Line Wednesday.

He said extra shifts for the enforcement of drunk driving started in the middle of the month and will continue through January 1.

On busier nights like Friday and Saturdays, there are provisions for additional officers to work overtime shifts.

In past years police did not make a single arrest on New Year's Eve or morning because of the advanced publicity.  And the lieutenant says that could happen again.  "I'll hope would be that there is voluntary compliance," he said.  "We want people to be safe."
