Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Huskies football squad are now at 4-2 on the year after beating Chugiak 21-7 on the road. That means they are 2-0 in their conference.
Gabby Soto had just more than 150 yards rushing in the game. He scored the first two touchdowns, starting off with an 80-yard run in the first quarter, and then on a 10-yard run in the second.
After leading 14-7 at halftime, Juneau sealed the deal in the fourth quarter with another TD, this time off an 11-yard pass from Noah Chambers to Cooper Kreigmont.
Head coach Rich Sjoroos says the game was the biggest one of the year so far for the team.
"If there was ever some playoff level football before the playoffs, this game was it," Sjoroos said.
The loss was bittersweet for the 1984 Chugiak High School state football championship team, which gathered for their 35th reunion at the homecoming event.
Juneau will now face Colony on the road in a conference matchup. The Knights are 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
