Juneau high school students to decide football mascot name and colors

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - It's been decided to consolidate the football teams at Juneau Douglas and Thunder Mountain High Schools.

That's probably the easy part.  The hard part is the mascot name and colors.

School District Superintendent Mark Miller said  on Action Line Thursday that they are down to three mascot names,  "Thunder Bears"; "Orcas"; and "Capital City Senators."

And he said of the choices for colors.  "They're looking at either blue, silver and white; purple, black and white; or red, white, and blue."

When asked when those decisions will be made and by whom, Miller said, "We're going to leave it up to a student vote at all three schools and that will occur within the next three or four weeks."
