Juneau Charging Stations Ordinance Could Require Permit

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — City officials are considering an ordinance to require electric vehicle owners to obtain a permit if they plan to use city-owned charging stations in Juneau.

The proposed ordinance is expected to be brought before the Assembly and could set an annual $50 permit to be placed on their rear car window. Those found charging without a permit would be fined $25. The charging stations are currently able to be used freely.

AEL&P estimated that there are about 200 electric vehicles in Juneau and about 2 vehicles are added each week.

If the Assembly approves the ordinance, it could be adopted as early as next month.
