JLO presents Midwinter Vocal Festival

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Just in time to chase the winter blues away! It is Juneau Lyric Opera’s annual Mid-Winter Vocal Festival.

    Dr. Byron McGilvray, along with accompanist and vocal coach Janis Capelle, will be here to lead us in song during the darkest nights of the season!  A number of events are planned this year.


    FESTIVAL CHORUS: (26 hours plus performance) Come sing a variety of musical genres with your friends and neighbors! All skill levels welcome!  We’ll announce what we are singing as soon as it’s finalized.

    $65 Adults / $35 Students 21 and younger

    FESTIVAL CHORUS SCHEDULE:

                 Thursday, December 28: 7:00pm - 9:30pm

                 Friday, December 29: 7:00pm - 9:30pm

                 Saturday, December 30: 10:00am - 1:00pm

                Sunday. December 31: 2:00pm – 5:00pm

                 Monday-Friday, January 1-5:  7:00pm - 9:30pm


    GROUP VOICE:  (4.5 hours) If you are a shower singer, or just need to brush up on the basic techniques of good singing, this is the class for you!

    $40 (Limited to 10 participants)

    GROUP VOICE SCHEDULE: All classes are from 5:15pm-6:45pm at Holy Trinity

    AUDITIONS:  Those wishing to perform a solo, duet, trio (etc) at the performance are invited to audition Saturday, December 30 at 2:00pm at Holy Trinity Church.  Bring 2 copies of your music (one for the accompanist and one for Dr. McGilvray).  You have a better chance if your music is memorized.  Any genre of music is welcomed!


    REGISTRATION: opens on December 1. Limited scholarships available. Contact director@juneauopera.org for an application.


    Festival concludes with performance:

    DRESS REHEARSAL on Saturday, January 6 at 2:00pm at the JACC

    PERFORMANCE on Sunday, January 7 at 3:00pm at the JACC
