JDHS girls take state soccer championship

    Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Douglas High School girls' soccer team beat Soldotna 5-1 in the Division II state championship game on Saturday in Anchorage.

    The win gives JDHS back-to-back state championships. The Lady Bears finished the season at 19-1.

    Eva Goering scored the first goal of the game, which was followed by the duo of Blake Plummer and Malia Miller adding four more goals.

    Thunder Mountain's girls took third place after beating Kenai Central 3-1.

    In boys soccer, the Bears defeated the Falcons 1-0 on Friday, while Ketchikan beat up on the Falcons 2-1 on Saturday morning. The JD boys ultimately fell to Kenai Central 3-2 on Saturday in the state championship match.
