Inmate dies in village jail

    Akiachak, Alaska (KINY) - Alcohol was said to be a contributing factor in the death.

    A dispatch from Alaska State Troopers said Robert Nick, 54, was placed into protective custody Friday night by tribal police officers due to his level of intoxication.

    Jail guards later found Nick unresponsive in his jail cell.

    Troopers said life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful.

    Troopers said the body was taken to the State Medical Examiners Office in Anchorage and the investigation continues.
