Sitka, Alaska (KINY) Freedom Alliance, a charitable organization that supports our nation’s injured service members, is set to host an exclusive saltwater fishing retreat May 21-25 for 14 veterans from across the country.
This marks the fifth year in a row the adventure has taken place. Upon arrival at 6:12 p.m., the service members will be greeted by the Sitka Fire Department and the Alaskan Coast Guard at the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport.
Freedom Alliance has found that recreational therapy improves rehabilitation efforts for troops healing from the physical and emotional wounds of war. The spectacular scenery not only provides a relaxing experience, but also facilities the right environment for these veterans to build friendship and support. “We are so honored for the past five years to be able to host this recreational therapy trip,” said Tom Kilgannon, president of Freedom Alliance. “It truly does help service members in their recovery process.”
The trip is made possible through generous support from organizations and individuals. Vonnie's Fishing Guide Service & Bed and Breakfast donated the four-day, three-night expedition. Additional sponsors included: Blue Charters, IslandView Resort & Charters and Elk’s Lodge #1662.
