Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Outside investigations into allegations of sexual harassment by lawmakers could be allowed under a complete rewrite of sexual harassment policies in Alaska state government.
The legislature's human resources manager Skiff Lobaugh would have the power to decide whether an independent investigator is needed in these cases.
A legislature committee has been meeting regularly this session to update the policy. There has been a national debate about sexual harassment and misconduct. Two lawmakers in Alaska resigned since December due to allegations of inappropriate conduct.
The group will seek comments on the draft from legislative staff and from the National Conference of State Legislatures before sending it to the Legislative Council for consideration.
