Hoonah fishermen pleds no contest to illegal crab catch

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A Hoonah fisherman entered a plea of no contest in Juneau District Court Thursday for the illegal take of crab in February.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers from the Juneau Post contacted the Fishing Vessel Donna Ann as it was coming in to the Alaska Glacier Seafoods dock to offload Tanner Crab on February 23.

Investigation revealed that the skipper and permit holder, 55 year old William Veler, was in possession of commercially taken crab more than 24 hours after the closure of registration in area "A".

Veler was fined $1,500 during his court appearance.
