Historic lodge destroyed in blaze

    Glennallen, Alaska (KINY) The Mendeltna Creek Lodge burned to the ground Sunday morning.

    A dispatch from Alaska State Troopers said multiple volunteer fire departments responded.  Several pets perished in the blaze. The lodge was built more than 80 years ago.  A passing motorist spotted the flames and contacted authorities.

    The State Fire Marshall was investigating the blaze.  The fire did appear to start in the living quarters at the rear of the building, according to fire officials.
