Haines man receives five years for weapon charge

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) -Gregory Christensen, 45, pled guilty to illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

    Haines Police arrested Christensen on October 28, 2017, after they responded to the report of a man assaulting a woman at a gas station.

    Police stopped the vehicle and located a loaded magazine in the pant pocket of the suspect.  They also seized a loaded AR-15 an assault rifle, in the vehicle.  Also seized were a Ruger 9mm pistol and a Springfield 9 mm pistol.  Police added that they located drug paraphernalia, two baggies that contained 16.55 grams of methamphetamines, and over 50 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms.

    Police also seized $584 in cash.

    Christensen had two felony convictions before this incident.  He was convicted in Washington on possession of stolen property and in Alaska for misconduct.

    Police searched the suspects home and located additional weapons that included four rifles, ammunition, a 19 round handgun magazine, and a white suppressor silencer.

    Haines Borough Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were involved in the investigation.
