Juneau, Alaska (KINY) $110 million will be pumped into medicaid and the Alaska Marine Highway System under a bill signed into law by Governor Bill Walker.
The Governor signed House Bill 321, the 'fast track' supplemental appropriations bill that totals $110.2 million. $92 million comes from unrestricted general funds.
Rep. Paul Seaton, House Finance Committee Co-chair said the House and Senate cooperated to address urgent funding needs and shared priorities, "This bill bridges budget gaps to keep ferries running, prisons operating, and doctors being paid."
$45 million will go toward the Medicaid program to cover provider costs through April. The Alaska Department of Corrections will receive $18.3 million to cover the higher than anticipated costs of inmate health care. $24 million will go to the Alaska Marine Highway System.
