Gov. Dunleavy commits National Guard to Mexico border if requested

    Gov. Micheal J. Dunleavy.

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Governor Michael J. Dunleavy will make the members of the Alaska National Guard available for call up by President Donald J. Trump if he requests military assistance at the Southern border.

The governor made the commitment in a press release issued by administration press secretary Matt Shuckerow.

"Today I notified the White House that Alaska and our National Guard – if called upon – stand ready to support the national security crisis on the U.S. Southern Border,” Dunleavy said.

Dunleavy added that while the "southern border may seem far away and distant, the crisis is real and a potential threat to every American, including Alaskans."

"I look forward to our Congressional delegation, and Alaskans, joining me in support of the President’s mission to secure our borders,” Dunleavy said.
