YAKUTAT, Alaska (KINY) - In cooperation with the office of the Governor of Alaska, the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe and the communities of Yakutat and Juneau, the U.S. Forest Service will be producing the Good Neighbor Tree and accompanying decorations for display at the Governor’s House for the holidays.
In the spirit of being good neighbors, the Forest Service, local communities and Alaska Native Peoples will work together to pick a suitable Sitka Spruce and create custom ornaments to adorn the tree upon arrival in Juneau. All three elementary classes from Yakutat Schools will create ornaments, and seniors from the Juneau Pioneer Home will create some as well.
The tree will be cut on the morning of November 22, and flown to Juneau later that day.
