Food Security Panel to be Held at City Hall

Juneau, AK (KINY) - Vendor's from Juneau's online farmers market will be available for a panel sponsored by the Juneau Commission on Sustainability and the UAF Cooperative Extension.

Several members of these local food providers will be talking about their business and vision for food security in the region. With such a reliance on importing goods, many Juneau residents fear that in a worst-case scenario, food would become incredibly scarce. To prevent this, efforts are being put into place to educate citizens on what they can do to ensure they and the community at large can do to prevent that.

The meeting titled Juneau Food Producers and Food Security takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall Chambers.

According to a CBJ press release, panelists include: Colin Peacock, Market Coordinator at Salt & Soil Marketplace; Lia Heifetz, Local Foods Director at Southeast Alaska Watershed Coalition; Kylie Wray of Panhandle Produce; Kalia Buerger of Alaska Probiotics and Matt Kern of Barnacle.
