Flu cases spike

    Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) January had the highest number of flu cases in one month in over four years.

    The state Division of Public Health reported 1,279 flu cases in January.  They have confirmed 1,606 flu cases since September.

    Last year the state recorded 6,619 flu cases.

    The Anchorage Daily News said every region in the state reported some kind of increase last month.

    The Alaska Native Medical Center reported 20-30 cases of the flu last month but treated nearly 50 flu patients within a 24-hour period on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
