Anchorage, Alaska, (KINY) The US Attorney in Anchorage filed charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon only hours after the self inflicted gunshot wound death of a five year old boy.
The boy's father, Anthony Johnson, was arraigned in US District Court in Anchorage this afternoon to face the felony charge. The charging document alleged that Mr. Johnson had been convicted in 2012 of a charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
The search of the home at 5740 Rocky Mountain Court December 5th allegedly turned up a .40 caliber pistol and ammunition for that weapon and a 9 millimeter firearm and also a magazine used for an AR-15 assault rifle.
The child died Tuesday from a single gunshot wound to the head. The police allege the child found the loaded gun in a bedroom dresser. The authorities urge every gun owner to be responsible and lock their firearms or use gun locks.
