Fairbanks Four will be in civil court with city

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) Following suit with Marvin Roberts, his three other co defendants have sued the City of Fairbanks in U.S District Court claiming false arrest and imprisonment and violation of their civil rights.

The four men who were imprisoned in the beating death of a 15-year-old boy have filed federal civil rights lawsuits against the city of Fairbanks and four police officers.  They were released from prison when new evidence came forth in the case.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported that  George Frese, Kevin Pease and Eugene Vent jointly filed the wrongful imprisonment suit last week after Roberts filed a similar suit earlier this month.

The men were convicted for the 1997 death of John Hartman and they spent nearly two decades in prison. The four signed a settlement agreement with the state in 2015, granting release from prison and erasing the convictions.

The suits request a judge to declare the release-dismissal agreement as unenforceable. The men had agreed not to sue by signing the settlement.
