DOC could suspend programs

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Some advocates said the programs cut have helped inmates transition back into the communities upon their release.

Alaska Public Media reported the Dunleavy administration plans to remove a position focused on inmate re-entry.  They have suspended a 12-hour pass program for some inmates that allows them to participate in community activities.

The DOC could also discontinue special access volunteer badges.

Department of Corrections Commissioner Nancy Dahlstrom said the department will continue to involve community members in programs.
