Death Investigation in St. George

St. George, Alaska (KINY) - Alcohol might be a factor in the death of a man whose body was found at the bottom of a cliff.

A dispatch from Alaska State Troopers said Serge Lekanof, 25, had been reported missing for six hours when they began a search for him.  The report said Lekanof had been drinking and had walked away from his home.  The dispatch went on to state that a body was found the next day at the bottom of a sheer rocky cliff.  Community members recognized that it was Lekanof.  The body was recovered on Monday after a long operation due to the hazardous nature of the cliff and frequent falling rocks in the area.

UPDATE (12/6/17) - The body had previously been reported to have been recovered, however, from an AST report "Due to the rough water, and the hazardous nature of the cliff, with frequent falling rocks, the body could not be reached for recovery.  On the morning of 12/2/2017, at low tide, the body was no longer there. On 12/4/2017, it was reported that the remains were again seen at the bottom of the cliff. Efforts are underway to recover the remains."
