Juneau, AK (KINY) - There was an update from Dana Herndon of the Downtown Business Association on the Streets of Juneau show.
Dana Herndon was recently involved with a video called Choose Juneau. Host Glenn Ojard asked what the thought process was behind that sort of promotion for the capital city.
"We are hoping to recruit more talent here to our beautiful city and by talent I mean people who want to see economic or job opportunities here. We have a lot of needs in Juneau. It would be great to have more people in that are researchers or more people in the hospitality/restaurant business. It would be great to attract those skilled workers to help fit those needs."
Herndon also elaborated on one of the overarching goals of the DBA.
"A couple years ago, we committed to the Main Street Approach. Main Street America is a national organization and they have a certain framework for downtown revitalization that we've committed to. It's a national program, but it has a super local approach."
"Basically, it looks at what your community is good at, what makes it successful, and what makes it unique and then builds on those strengths to really solidify the downtown core. That is an economic driver in our community, it's super important, so a strong downtown, a vibrant downtown is really beneficial for everyone here."
In September they are planning a special block party on First Friday.
"We'll be doing a block party the First Friday in September. We'll be closing down Front St with a ton of music and dancing in the streets. I love closing down Front St because it is so much fun."
