Cruise ship season ends October 4 with nearly 1 point 3 million passenger visits

New Port Engineer Eric Schaal and Port Director Carl Uchytil on Acton Line

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Docks and Harbors Department is anticipating the end of the cruise ship season.

It comes on Wednesday, October 2 when the Norwegian Jewel leaves down.

Port Director Carl Uchytil said on Action Line that right now they are projecting 1.288 million passengers, 12 thousand shy of 1.3 million.

Uchytil reacted to news that the industry is projecting a six percent increase year amounting to at least 1 point 44 million passengers.  "A five or six percent increase basically means 500 more people a day for the season.

Ten new ships and 29 additional port calls are expected, according to the group, Rain Coast Data, which unveiled those figures during the Southeast Conference meeting in Sitka this week.
