Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Chancellor Rick Caulfield of the University of Alaska Southeast talked about his school's budget challenges while a guest on Action Line Tuesday.
He said the $341 Million budget proposal submitted by the Board of Regents was reduced by Governor Walker to $317 Million. The chancellor said the governor added a provision for possible capital funding. "So that's a fairly significant drop, $24 Million below what the regents had sought."
Caulfield said UAS share of the reduced budget would be about $24 Million.
In the meantime enrollment for the Spring Semester that got underway earlier this month was down by 3 percent compared to last year.
The chancellor says tuition comprises about 35 percent of the university's revenues.
