Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Police were forced to shoot a black bear after it got inside a post office and refused to leave.
The 300-pound black bear was killed after it wandered into an Anchorage post office Sunday. It apparently had been attracted by garbage in the area, walked through an open door near a loading dock and was confronted by post workers.
The facility was closed at the time but about 75 workers were at the facility sorting mail at the Post Office located near the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Airport Police and employees tried to encourage the bear to leave the facility but were unable to. Police were then forced to put down the bear after it climbed up onto a conveyor belt and wound up in a garbage compactor..
