Authorities searching for man after Kake house fire

    Kake, Alaska (KINY) - Authorities are investigating an early morning house fire in Kake and are searching for a man that reportedly lived in the home.

    According to Kake Tribal President Joel Jackson the fire, which was near Canadian Side Road in the village, was reported at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday.

    First responders and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze after about an hour, but the second floor had collapsed onto the ground floor making entry impossible at the time.

    A search locally for the young man, identified as Loren Jackson, Jr., has been ongoing.

    "It's a sad time right now," Jackson said. "We're hoping above hope that he turns up."

    Jackson added that the State Fire Marshal and Alaska State Troopers are investigating the fire.
