Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) More negotiations will be needed before the Anchorage School District and teachers can reach agreement on a new contract.
After reaching a tentative deal, the full union membership voted to turn down the contract during three days of voting this week. Salary could have been the deciding issue. The Union had requested a 3 percent salary hike this year and that was not included in the proposal.
Anchorage Schools said with a tight budget they can not afford a pay raise this year.. The two sides do plan on future negotiations. The previous teachers contract expired June 30th.
