Alaskan wins Iditarod

Nome, Alaska (KINY) - Peter Kaiser arrived in Nome at 3:39 a.m. just 12 minutes ahead of defending champion Joar Leifseth Ulsom.

It became a two sled race Monday after race leader Nicolas Petit of Girdwood's dogs refused to mush after a disagreement between a veteran dog and a younger dog on his team.  Petit dropped out of the race.

Kaiser becomes the first Yup'ik Iditarod champion in the history of the race.

Kaiser will receive prize money and a new Dodge Ram truck.
