Alaska Fish and Game warns about wolves

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Wolf sightings in the area have increased in recent months and that could impact hikers and even dog walkers, the Alaska Fish and Game reported Sunday.

The Juneau Empire reported that they are not sure if the population of wolves has increased or that people are just more aware of wolves.  The state agency does not do population studies of wolves.  Harvest reports show that three wolves were harvested on Douglas Island last year, while one was harvest this year.

A wildlife biologist described the wolf population as healthy in southeast Alaska.
