Alaska Fifth Worst In The Nation For High School Graduation Rates

    Juneau, AK (KINY)-Alaska schools have among the worst graduation rates in the nation, according to new federal figures.

    The Anchorage Daily News reports that the US Department of Education released data this week on the rate of students
    graduating from high school within four years.
    In Alaska, just over 76-percent of high school students graduate on time, the fifth-lowest rate, after Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico, and at the bottom of the list, the District of Columbia.
    Iowa has the best on-time graduation rate, with over 91 percent of students earning a high school diploma within four years. Alaska education officials note that the state's rate has increased steadily over the years.  .
