Alaska college students could pay more

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KINY) The Alaska Board of Regents approved what amounts to a 10 percent increase in college tuition over the next two years.

The tuition will rise five percent in each of the next two years at campuses in Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage.

Kodiak College and Prince William Sound College will see a 10 percent increase next year and another 9.5 percent increase in 2020.  This will bring these colleges in line with the costs of tuition at the other three campuses.

The college system has seen a dramatic decrease in state funding over the past few years due to the state's fiscal crunch.  They have asked for a $20 million budget increase for the next fiscal year.
