Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The house and senate this week approved a bill that would legalize the commercial production of hemp.

The proposed legislation would allow a pilot program.  According to Wikipedia, Hemp is a cannabis plant that produces useful fiber.  Hemp has lower concentrations of THC and higher concentrations of cannabiodiol which decreases or eliminates its psychoactive effects

The bill is authored by Sen. Shelley Hughes of Palmer.  If the bill is signed by Governor Bill Walker hemp could be growing in Alaska in 2019.
