Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - An appropriation ordinance up for public hearing and action at tonight's (Monday's) Assembly meeting commits $480,000 for an accessory apartment grant incentive program.
The program would provides $6,000 grants to homeowners for units that pass a final inspection and receive a certificate of occupancy.
The source of the funding is the Juneau Affordable Housing Fund. Creation of additional affordable housing is a top Assembly goal.
Another appropriation ordinance up for hearing and action earmarks $200,000 from the Harbor Fund for maintenance and improvements at the Auke Bay Marine Station. The Docks and Harbors Department and the University of Alaska Southeast are sharing the former NOAA lab facilities that were surplused by the federal government.
A measure calling for the amendment of the Land Use Code relating to essential public services is up for action. Suggested by City Manager Rorie Watt, the ordinance would provide a process for permitting such a facility in a location not otherwise authorized under the table of permissible uses and that would also be extremely difficult to site.
The Assembly meeting is scheduled to convene at 7 p.m. in Assembly Chambers at City Hall.
