Cops nab armed robber
Juneau Police have made an arrest in connection with the armed robbery Tuesday of the Super 8 Motel.  Captain Michael DeCapua says JPD was assisted by the Southeast Alaska Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Alaska State Trooper's Anchorage Airport Detail and members of the Alaska Army National Guard Counter Drug Enforcement Unit.  29 year old Jacob Lofton was arrested without incident just before 9:30 last night outside the Westmark Hotel on Egan Drive.  Lofton was charged with robbery in the first degree and was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail.  The investigation is continuing and more charges and arrests are possible.

Pay phones going up, again
P-T-I Communications is raising the cost of a local call on area pay phones again.   Juneau, Kodiak, Fairbanks, Kenai, and Sitka can all expect the cost of a local call to raise to 35 cents.  This is the second time P-T-I has raised costs.  In August the company raised the cost from a dime to a quarter, citing the expense of maintaining the pay phones.  Workers are busy converting about a thousand phones to the new rate this week and next.

Move bill sees light of day
House State Affairs Committee Chairwoman Jeannette James of North Pole relented to pressure from Representatives Norm Rokeberg and Joe Green, and moved their controversial bill to move the legislative sessions to Anchorage out of committee.  Representative Kim Elton says the move came as a surprise, as there had been agreement that the legislation would probably not move far in the legislative process.  Senator Jim Duncan says if the measure passes the House, it faces a hurdle in the Senate, where a similar measure was quashed two years ago.
