Opening Reception for Amy Meissner's exhibit Inheritance: makers. memory. myth

    Friday, December 7th

    Event Summary

Artist Amy Meissner explores domesticity and motherhood. She describes herself as a memoirist, whose preferred medium is textiles and preferred language is the stitch. Meissner’s textile art combines traditional handwork and contemporary imagery to explore memory, fragility and the literal, physical and emotional work of women. Her materials are vintage, discarded or found and manipulate unknown histories to shape a narrative of myth for each artwork. The works in this exhibition include contemporary mixed media work created from donated, abandoned, rescued, and crowdsourced domestic linens. A reception with light refreshments will be offered by the Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum. Admission to the Museum is free from 4:30-7:00 pm.
