Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Friday, Feb. 2 will mark the end of an era at KINY as the Juneau Media Center announces the retirement of Wade Bryson, the esteemed host of ‘Problem Corner’, after a remarkable 16-year tenure.

“Problem Corner” is the longest-running radio program in Alaska’s history, previously hosted by Juneau Mayor Dennis Egan. It’s set to end next Friday after about 70 years on the air.

Bryson has decided to step back from his role as the host to focus more on his family and his deep-rooted commitment to public service in the City of Juneau. His dedication to the community and his family has always been a driving force behind his career.

“While it’s bittersweet to leave ‘Problem Corner’, a show that has been a significant part of my life, I am excited to spend more time with my loved ones and continue my service to the community that has given me so much,” Bryson said. “I am grateful for the support of my listeners and colleagues over the years and look forward to remaining an active voice in Juneau.”

He added that he felt he was able to commit to a public service through hosting Problem Corner.

“For the last five-plus years I have not only been able to serve the city, but I was also able to communicate directly to the community on what I was doing at the city,” Bryson said in an interview. “It’s the greatest privilege I’ve had to have that role to communicate and make a difference through Problem Corner.”

Though Bryson is stepping down as host, his relationship with KINY and the community is far from over. He will continue to contribute to KINY as a valued expert and member of the assembly, offering his insights on news and events that shape the city of Juneau.

“Wade has been more than just a host; he’s been a mentor, a community leader, and a trusted voice for many,” Dan Larson, General Manager of KINY said. “We are immensely grateful for his years of service and are thrilled that he will continue to be a part of the KINY family.”

The Juneau Media Center invites the community to celebrate Bryson’s career this coming week and wish him the best in his retirement.

“His contributions to ‘Problem Corner’ and the community have been invaluable, and we look forward to his continued involvement with KINY and the city of Juneau,” The Juneau Media Center wrote in a statement.
